Job Creation/Private Sector Revival

Lebanon’s private sector should be an engine for job creation and economic growth. The Partnership is working to help revive the private sector in Lebanon and create jobs through business matching initiatives, equity investments, SME enablement projects and ICT micro-grants to rural and southern Lebanon. The Partnership’s efforts are focused on six key industries: technology, tourism, banking and finance, agribusiness, health care and manufacturing.

Business Matching:
The Partnership has teamed with local stakeholders like the Near East Consulting Group, as well as Lebanese business organizations like Kafalat and IDAL to identify promising Lebanese businesses that could benefit from equity investments or matching with compatible American and international business ventures. More than 100 Lebanese projects have been identified, at least 50 of which have the potential to create over 4,000 direct jobs – enough to enable entire industries. The Partnership’s portfolio includes projects in the following categories: tourism, education, agriculture/food processing, finance/banking, healthcare/pharmaceuticals, ICT and manufacturing. In addition, the United States Chamber of Commerce has launched a web portal allowing U.S. based companies to browse business opportunities in Lebanon, and is conducting a series of business classes at the American University in Beirut for many of the Lebanese businesses featured on the site.

Equity Investments:
The Partnership has decided to invest in companies in the ICT sector that rely heavily on technology. Our goal is to increase the number of high quality jobs in Lebanon and we are investing with the aim to create something long term and sustainable for Lebanon. The Partnership goes beyond just investing in Lebanese businesses; where we can, we support our investments via tech or management consulting and advice and provide financial support for expenditures that go beyond investing. The Partnership has decided to invest in companies in the ICT sector that rely heavily on technology.
